Dark to Dawn’s mission is to defend the cause of the orphans by declaring God's mandate for their care and inspiring believers to take action.
Dark to Dawn is a faith-based organization, based in Ventura County, and established in June, 2009. We partner with domestic and international adoption and orphan care agencies, as well as local foster care agencies. Dark to Dawn was formed to help inspire Christians from any and every season in life to discover their God-directed path to care for children who are orphaned or in foster care, and to help Christians connect with existing ministries and agencies. We are committed to developing a broad-based coalition of churches who share a passion for the ministries of adoption, foster care and orphan care. At present, Dark to Dawn has no paid staff and operates as a ministry of Anthem Church.
Our primary programs and activities are listed below:
- We hold Conferences each year to bring together Christians to consider God’s mandate for the care of children who are in foster care or are orphaned; and, we also invite agencies who work in the areas of international and domestic adoption, orphan care and foster care.
- Dark to Dawn helps to sponsor several informal breakfast meetings during the year to bring together church leaders in Ventura County to share what areas of ministry (adoption, foster care, or orphan care) they are pursuing, and to see how we can all work together to expand our impact.
- Our Face to Face ministry encourages the development of small groups for adoptive parents and connects experienced adoptive and foster parents with those considering adoption or foster parenting. We also partner with the Foster & Kinship Care Education agency to offer 4 classes each year on topics of interest to foster parents, relative care-providers, and parents who have adopted a child (domestic or international).
- Through our Adoption Fund, we provide financial assistance to families seeking to adopt a child, either locally or from another country. The Fund is administered by Lifesong for Orphans.
- Dark to Dawn’s Community of Friends ministry provides volunteers to connect with foster youth and one-time financial assistance (housing, transportation, education, etc.) to youth who have recently “aged out” of the foster care system. We also help provide graduation gifts for foster youth who are graduating from high school each June.
- To help raise awareness of the needs of local foster youth, Dark to Dawn is committed to sponsoring meetings each year that feature a panel of recently emancipated foster youth who share their experiences and struggles and how people can get involved in helping them move along the path to independence.
